AAC gubernatorial candidate Udoh Oberaifo has expressed concern over the impeachment of Edo State Deputy Governor Philip Shaibu by the State House of Assembly, claiming it violated justice and due process.

Marvelous Godwins Omobayo became the new deputy governor after Shaibu was impeached, allegedly for “revealing government secrets.”

However, Oberaifo wasted no time in condemning the actions of the assembly, asserting that regardless of the charges leveled against Shaibu, proper procedures were not followed.

Oberaifo criticized the impeachment of Shaibu in Benin for the lack of a fair hearing and emphasized the disregard for justice principles.

He emphasized that the impeachment of Shaibu happened in spite of an ongoing lawsuit at the Federal High Court, which ought to have led to the restoration of the status quo.

”Of particular concern is the fact that the impeachment proceeded despite a pending case filed by the deputy governor at the Federal High court”

Oberaifo further raised concerns about the political affiliations of the new deputy governor, alleging that Omobayo, a card-carrying member of the Labour Party (LP), had not resigned from his party membership before assuming office.

This, he argued, violated the Electoral Act of 2022 and pointed to collusion between the LP and the ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to consolidate power.

Oberaifo criticized godfatherism in Edo politics, urging against PDP and LP in September 2024 and mobilizing Edo residents to support AAC for governor.
