Former England midfielder Owen Hargreaves has thrown his weight behind Arsenal as the favorites to triumph over Bayern Munich in their upcoming Champions League quarter-final clash.

Hargreaves warns against underestimating Bayern’s potential, despite Arsenal’s slight advantage due to their current form, despite his connections to top Bundesliga teams.

Hargreaves, who represented Bayern Munich from 1997 to 2007, acknowledges the historical dominance of the Bavarian club but points out their challenging season.

Speaking to TNT Sports, he expressed his belief that Arsenal’s performance throughout the season positions them as the likely victors in this showdown.

“To be honest, I think Arsenal might just shade it with the season that they’ve had,” Hargreaves commented. “Historically, Bayern have been the favorite in this game but they’ve had a bit of a tricky season.”

Indeed, Bayern Munich has faced difficulties in the current campaign, struggling to replicate their usual dominance in both the domestic league and the Champions League.

Despite this, Hargreaves is cautious not to dismiss Bayern entirely, emphasizing their ability to turn the tide if they find their rhythm.

“I think Bayern can salvage their season if they go through,” he added. “But I think at the moment Arsenal are slight favorites but Bayern are dangerous underdogs if they get it right.”
