The debate on the implementation of state police in Nigeria has sparked differing opinions among leaders and stakeholders.

Former Kaduna lawmaker Shehu Sani argues that Nigeria is not mature enough for state police due to its vulnerability to abuse by governors.

Recall President Bola Tinubu had opened a dialogue and urged participants to consider the implications of state police.

But Sani stated in an X post state that State Police cannot magically solve the problems faced by the Military, Federal Police, and other security agencies.

He wrote: “State Police cannot magically solve the problem that the Military, the Federal Police and all other security agencies have been battling with.,”

Sani further stressed that the State Police will be used for election rigging, persecution of political opponents, and harassment of non-indigenes.
