The owner of an Abuja-based Chinese supermarket, Liu Bei, has appeared before a tribunal at the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC). This follows the store’s closure for allegedly refusing Nigerians entry.

Following a summons and threat of sanctions issued on Monday, April 22, by the FCCPC, Bei presented himself before the tribunal. An update provided by the FCCPC on Wednesday, April 24, stated that the owners of the supermarket responded to the summons and underwent questioning regarding the discrimination allegations.

Furthermore, FCCPC operatives conducted an inspection of the facility as part of the ongoing investigation. The supermarket had previously implemented a policy restricting entry to Chinese nationals only, excluding Nigerians from patronizing the establishment, which sparked public outcry.

The FCCPC has vowed to provide further updates as the investigation progresses.
