Nigerian Students Demand Urgent Action Amid Fuel Scarcity Crisis

Nigerian students, represented by the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), have strongly criticized the ongoing fuel scarcity in several parts of the country. In a statement issued by the Senate President, Comrade Akinteye Afeez, NANS expressed deep concern over the situation, emphasizing its detrimental impact on the nation’s economy.

The association questioned why fuel supply has deteriorated despite the oversight of President Bola Tinubu over the Federal Ministry of Petroleum Resources and the leadership of Mele Kyari as the Group Chief Executive Officer (GCEO) of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Limited (NNPCL).

NANS highlighted the severe consequences of the fuel crisis, including unreliable electricity supply, soaring prices, and disruptions to essential services. They demanded immediate action from the NNPCL to resolve the crisis and restore stability to the nation.

Key demands outlined by NANS include transparency in providing information about fuel supply, improvement of infrastructure and logistics for efficient distribution, and prompt addressing of bottlenecks in the supply chain. The association also called for engagement with stakeholders, including student representatives, to collaborate on solutions.

Failure by the NNPCL to address the crisis decisively could result in calls for the resignation or removal of Mele Kyari from office, warned NANS. The association further stated that Nigerian students are prepared to take mass action if swift measures are not taken to alleviate the fuel scarcity.

NANS emphasized the urgency for the NNPCL to fulfill its mandate and prioritize the well-being of the Nigerian people, stressing that the future of the nation depends on it.
