Despite having retired seven months ago, Eden Hazard’s move to Real Madrid will see Chelsea get a £5 million extra when the Spanish team advances to the Champions League final.

Real Madrid’s Champions League final victory has led to a windfall in Hazard’s contract, triggered by his departure from Stamford Bridge in 2019.

Hazard’s move to Real Madrid was one of the most lucrative deals in football history, fetching Chelsea a staggering £130 million package, with additional bonuses linked to the Spanish club’s performance in competitions.

The recent bonus was activated after Real Madrid, under the management of Carlo Ancelotti, secured a victory over Bayern Munich, propelling them to the brink of European glory.

Despite Hazard’s retirement announcement last October and the subsequent termination of his contract with Real Madrid, the terms of his transfer agreement with Chelsea remain valid.

This unexpected windfall, though relatively modest in comparison to current market transfer fees, is a welcomed boost for Chelsea as they navigate financial regulations set forth by the Premier League’s profit-and-sustainability rules.

During his time at Real Madrid, Hazard struggled with injuries and inconsistent form, making just 54 La Liga appearances over four seasons.

However, his contribution to Chelsea’s success during his seven-year tenure in West London cannot be overlooked, with the Belgian winger playing a pivotal role in securing two Premier League titles and two Europa League trophies for the club.

Reflecting on his retirement, Hazard expressed gratitude for his football journey, stating, “You must listen to yourself and say stop at the right time… Thank you to everyone for these great times, I will miss you all.”
