The presidency has asserted that President Bola Tinubu remains unfazed by the recent political maneuvers of Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Peter Obi of the Labour Party (LP).

Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, stated that President Tinubu is focused on addressing the nation’s economic challenges rather than engaging in political gamesmanship.

Onanuga’s comments come amid speculations of a potential merger between Atiku and Obi following their recent meetings with key political figures.

Last week, Peter Obi convened with Atiku, former Senate President Bukola Saraki, and PDP chieftain Sule Lamido, sparking rumors of strategic alliances ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

In an interview with BBC Hausa, Atiku even suggested he might consider stepping down in favor of Obi in the next election cycle.

Reacting to these developments on Saturday in Abuja, Onanuga remarked, “We are only surprised that they are plotting just one year after an election they lost. They are still behaving like sore losers. We are not bothered by the games they are playing, as they are revealing their mindset. They are mere politicians who only think about the next election.”

He emphasized that President Tinubu’s priorities lie in his commitment to Nigeria’s progress. “President Tinubu is a true statesman who is concerned about fulfilling his promises to Nigerians. At the moment, he is very busy resetting the economy of our country for the better, laying the foundation that ought to have been laid decades ago,” Onanuga added.
