Presidency: Challenge Tinubu in 2027 instead of returning as Emir—Adeyanju tells Sanusi

Deji Adeyanju: Sanusi Should Contest Against Tinubu Instead of Becoming Emir Again

Human rights activist Deji Adeyanju has suggested that Muhammadu Sanusi II, the recently reinstated Emir of Kano, should consider contesting against President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election rather than resuming his role as Emir

Sanusi, who was deposed as the Emir of Kano four years ago, has been reinstated to the throne by Governor Abba Yusuf.

This decision followed the Kano State House of Assembly’s resolution to dethrone the current Emir and dismantle the four new Emirates established under a controversial 2019 law.

Adeyanju, expressing his views on X, argued that Sanusi, a former Central Bank Governor, should have pursued a political path instead. “Don’t know why SLS accepted to be Emir again but it would have been better for him to contest for president against the likes of Nuhu Ribadu after Tinubu’s second term,” Adeyanju posted.

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has recently signed a bill that abolished the five Emirates created by former Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje and reinstated Sanusi Lamido as the new Emir of Kano.

Additionally, the state governor has ordered all five former Emirs to hand over their instruments of office to the Deputy Governor, Abdulsalam Aminu Gwarzo.
