Salihu Lukman, a former Deputy National Vice Chairman North-West of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has strongly criticized the federal government’s involvement in the emirship tussle in Kano state, describing it as reckless.

In a statement issued on Monday, Lukman condemned the federal government’s approach, stating that the manner in which politics is being played is not only recklessly insensitive to the dangers posed to human lives in Kano but also disgraceful and inconsiderate to the preferences of the people of Kano State.

Lukman expressed alarm over the recent developments in Kano following the reinstatement of Sanusi Lamido Sanusi as the 16th Emir of Kano by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf last Thursday.

He highlighted the concerning nature of these events, emphasizing the federal government’s misuse of its power and control over security agencies in a partisan manner.

According to Lukman, this action undermines the constitutional authority of the Kano State Government over its traditional institutions and exemplifies the crisis of impunity in the country.

“Why President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will approve such a reckless mission, which is incompatible with both the founding vision of the APC and every principle of democracy, is worrisome,” Lukman stated.

He noted that if similar actions had come from former Presidents Olusegun Obasanjo or Muhammadu Buhari, given their military backgrounds, it would be more understandable.

As a member of the APC from the North-West, Lukman expressed his scandal at the party’s degeneration below any democratic standard.

He attributed the federal government’s actions to an attempt to restore the abrasive politics of Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje in Kano State by undermining the current Kano State Government led by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.
