Former Kaduna Central Senator Shehu Sani has warned against the potential negative effects of establishing state police in Nigeria.
Sani fears that the creation of state police forces could lead to violent encounters with federal police, particularly in situations where there are disputes between state and federal authorities.
Sani’s warning comes at a time when President Bola Tinubu and state governors are considering the introduction of state police as a measure to address the country’s security challenges.
“When you have State Police, that is how they will be exchanging fire with the Federal Police, in case of conflict between the State and the Federal Government,”
