The Organized Labour has decided to suspend the nationwide strike for a period of five days.
This temporary halt is aimed at facilitating uninterrupted discussions with the tripartite committee regarding the new national minimum wage for workers across the country.
The announcement of this suspension came shortly after a crucial meeting with the Federal Government Tripartite Committee, which was scheduled for 10 am earlier today.
During a prior meeting with the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), George Akume, and other government officials on Monday, Labour leaders deliberated on the issue at hand.
It was disclosed that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has expressed a strong commitment towards implementing a new minimum wage that surpasses the current rate of N60,000.
Following these discussions, it was unanimously agreed that the Tripartite Committee would convene daily over the course of the next week with the primary objective of reaching a mutual consensus on the National Minimum Wage.
The latest meeting, which took place last night preceding today’s engagement, resulted in the Organized Labour making the decision to tentatively suspend the ongoing strike action.
As a consequence of this development, all government and private sector entities are expected to revert to their normal operations and functioning.
