Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, has refuted rumors suggesting the Federal Government has proposed a new minimum wage of N105,000.

He addressed the speculation in a post on his official X handle on Thursday, clarifying that the claims are unfounded.

The rumors emerged following a report suggesting that Wale Edun, the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister for the Economy, had included the N105,000 figure in a new minimum wage template.

However, Onanuga firmly denied these claims. “The Honorable Minister of Finance and coordinating minister of the economy, Wale Edun has not proposed N105,000 minimum wage. The contrary story being disseminated is false,” he stated.

This clarification comes after President Bola Tinubu tasked Edun with presenting a new wage template within two days.

As of now, labor unions have not confirmed whether the government has made any new wage offer.

The issue of the minimum wage has been a contentious topic, with many Nigerians hoping for an increase to cope with the rising cost of living.
