Finidi George has revealed the reasons behind his decision to step down as head coach of the Super Eagles.

The 53-year-old submitted his resignation to the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) on Saturday, marking the end of his tenure with the national team.

The resignation came shortly after the NFF announced plans to bring in a foreign technical adviser to work alongside Finidi. The announcement caught many by surprise, including Finidi himself.

In a video posted on social media, former Super Eagles media officer Colin Udoh shared details from his conversation with Finidi following the resignation. Udoh confirmed that Finidi had indeed stepped down and provided insight into the circumstances leading to his decision.

“Finidi confirmed to me that he resigned his position indeed,” Udoh said.

“The reason being that he met with the NFF on Thursday and they had a very good conversation. They spoke about the things they need to do going forward and he (Finidi) asked if he will be back.”

However, according to Udoh, at no point during that meeting was Finidi informed about the NFF’s decision to appoint a foreign technical adviser.

The decision was made during a board meeting on Wednesday, unbeknownst to Finidi.

It wasn’t until after Finidi had returned to Port Harcourt that he learned of the decision. “When he landed in Port Harcourt after that meeting, someone called him and informed him.

He (Finidi) had to park his car and read the link to see that it actually was true,” Udoh recounted.

Despite waiting for two days to hear from the NFF, Finidi received no further communication. Feeling neglected and unwelcome, he ultimately decided to resign. “So he (Finidi) felt they didn’t want him anymore and so he decided to turn in his resignation,” Udoh explained.
