Manchester United manager, Erik ten Hag, has disclosed that the Premier League club made a special trip to Ibiza to persuade him to remain at the helm.
Speaking on Dutch TV channel NOS, Ten Hag recounted the surprising effort by United’s management to secure his commitment while he was on holiday.
“The club management came to me while I was on holiday in Ibiza,” Ten Hag said. “They suddenly showed up on my doorstep and told me they wanted to continue with me.”
The revelation comes after a period of uncertainty regarding Ten Hag’s future, which was in doubt before he led the Red Devils to victory in the FA Cup final.
With that success, United have affirmed their decision to keep the former Ajax boss, reinforcing their faith in his leadership.
Ten Hag also shed light on the involvement of Manchester United’s new co-owner, Sir Jim Ratcliffe, in the decision-making process.
Ratcliffe, who heads the INEOS group, had conversations with multiple candidates, including former Bayern Munich and Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel.
“Manchester United have told me that they spoke with Tuchel, but they eventually came to the conclusion that they already have the best manager,” Ten Hag added.
“INEOS took their time. They are new in football, it’s normal to reflect on the season. It’s no secret that they talked with multiple candidates.
