Ex-Speaker Pelosi Slams Supreme Court for Granting Trump Immunity

Washington, D.C. – Former California Speaker Nancy Pelosi has strongly criticized the Supreme Court for its recent ruling on presidential immunity, claiming it has gone rogue.

Pelosi claimed the decision, which shields core presidential actions from criminal prosecution, has further eroded the Court’s credibility.

“Today, the Supreme Court has gone rogue with its decision, violating the foundational American principle that no one is above the law,” Pelosi stated.

She criticized former President Trump’s assertion of absolute presidential immunity as a direct challenge to the vision of the Founding Fathers, who sought to break away from monarchical rule.

“The Supreme Court placed itself on trial with this decision – and its credibility has been further diminished in the eyes of all those who believe in the rule of law,” she added.

On Monday, the Supreme Court ruled that essential presidential powers are protected from criminal charges, a decision that benefits former President Trump by remanding his federal election interference case to a lower court.

The lower court will now determine whether Trump’s actions in attempting to overturn the 2020 election are protected under this immunity.

The ruling, divided along ideological lines, did not fully grant Trump the total immunity he sought but significantly reduces the likelihood of his case going to trial before the 2024 presidential election in November.

Pelosi expressed concern over the part of the ruling that deemed official acts inadmissible in trials for unofficial actions, labeling it a “seriously dangerous aspect of the ruling.”

“With its delay, the Republican-appointed 6-3 Court gave the defendant a political gift,” Pelosi remarked.

This decision undermines special counsel Jack Smith’s indictment of Trump, as it protects various actions Trump took to maintain power after losing the election.

The case now returns to district court, where proceedings were previously halted while the Supreme Court considered Trump’s claims of immunity.

Judge Tanya Chutkan, overseeing the case, must now re-evaluate the matter along with other pending motions by Trump to dismiss the case.
