Former Super Eagles coach Finidi George has been unveiled as the new head coach of Rivers United.

George signed a two-year contract with Rivers United during a ceremony at the club’s secretariat in Port Harcourt.

He steps into the role following the dismissal of Stanley Eguma towards the end of last season.

The team, which finished eighth in the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) last season, is eager to see what George can achieve.

George’s appointment is seen as a strategic move for Rivers United, who are keen to improve their performance in the upcoming season.

Former Ajax winger, 54, led Enyimba to NPFL title in 2022/2023, boosting hopes for Rivers United to replicate his success.

During the unveiling, George expressed his enthusiasm for the new role and his commitment to driving the team forward.

“I am excited to join Rivers United and look forward to working with the players and staff to achieve great things,” he said. “This club has a lot of potential, and I am confident that together, we can reach new heights.”

Rivers United’s management also voiced their confidence in George’s abilities, highlighting his tactical acumen and leadership skills. “We believe that Finidi George is the right person to lead our team. His achievements with Enyimba speak volumes, and we are optimistic about what he will bring to Rivers United,” a club spokesperson stated.
