Ekiti State Government has approved a total of N806,409,775.00 million for the execution of various power generation projects.
This significant approval was given during the State Executive Council meeting held on Thursday, as announced by the state Commissioner for Information, Taiwo Olatunbosun.
Briefing newsmen on the outcome of the meeting, Olatunbosun stated that the move is part of the government’s efforts to tackle the problem of epileptic electricity supply in the state and to connect new areas to the national grid.
He detailed that the council approved the extension, rehabilitation of the 33kv network, and installation of transformers across various towns and villages in Ekiti.
Providing a breakdown of the approvals, Olatunbosun said the State Executive Council sanctioned N147,554,000.00 for the extension of electricity and installation of transformers at Ibukunoluwa/Asun Gbowoola and adjoining communities on Afao Road, Ado Ekiti.
Additionally, N60,002,275.00 was approved for similar projects in Faglo Area, Basiri, Ado Ekiti, with installations also set for Isan and Usi Ekiti, among others.
Prof Mobolaji Aluko, from the Committee for Infrastructure and Public Utilities, emphasized that the government aims to ensure all Ekiti towns have their electricity sourced locally.
He noted that up to ten communities would receive new transformers as part of this initiative.
“In terms of the extension of 33kv lines, major projects include those between Aramoko and Ijero, Erinjiyan and Igbara Odo, and Iluomoba and Ikole,” Aluko explained.
“These projects complement the works already completed between Ado and Ikogosi, Ado and Gbonyin, Ayekire, and Ekiti East axis, as well as the new projects starting from Iyemero to Itapaji.”
He added, “What we are trying to achieve is to ensure that as many towns within Ekiti as possible get electricity from within the state. For instance, the line from Erinjiyan to Igbara Odo will now come from Ado instead of Akure, and the extension from Aramoko to Ijero means the line from Omuaran to Ijero will now come from Ode in Ekiti State.”
This initiative reflects the Ekiti State Government’s commitment to improving the quality of life for its residents by enhancing electricity supply and infrastructure across the state.
