The minister of the federal capital territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike has urged residents not to participate in the planned nationwide protest.
He spoke on Thursday during an interactive session with residents, after he had inspected the construction of the Saburi to Dei Dei road in Abuja.
There have been multiple reports that youths are organizing a nationwide protest against the rising cost of living in the country.
Wike said the protest is “organised by politicians to destabilise President Bola Tinubu’s administration”.
The FCT minister said Tinubu is aware of Nigeria’s problems and “working tirelessly” to address the challenges.
The former Rivers governor also said the ongoing reforms and policies would soon yield desired results.
“Those asking you to protest are lying to you. It is not for the interest of Nigeria and it is not for your interest,” NAN quoted Wike as saying.
“Don’t be angry and don’t join the protest, because protest will not solve the problem. The government is aware of the hunger and that is why it is working hard to find a lasting solution to the problem.
“I know that hunger makes people lose patience. Please be patient. That is all I am asking. This hunger will reduce very soon.”
Minister Wike assured residents of the area that the government will build a police station in Saburi.
The chairman of Abuja municipal area council, Christopher Maikalangu, pledged to construct a health facility in the area.
