Shehu Sani has Criticizes Police Demand for Protesters’ Details Ahead of August 1-10 Hardship Protests
Shehu Sani, a former Kaduna Senator and right activist, has stated that the organizers of the upcoming hardship protest will only submit their details if they have been hypnotized or charmed.
Shehu responded to the Nigeria Police’s statement regarding the conditions for protesters on his X account.
The Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, had instructed the planners of the August 1-10 protests to submit their details to the commissioners of police in their respective states.
This directive followed a request by human rights activist Ebun-Olu Adegboruwa, acting as solicitor for the planned protesters, for the police and the Department of State Services (DSS) to provide security during the protests.
In his reaction, Sani, who led protests during Nigeria’s military era, stressed that only under the influence of charms would protesters provide their personal details to the police.
“The only way a protester can submit his name and address to the police is when he is charmed or ‘jazzed’ by a priest or a native doctor,” he said.
