The minister of defense, Mohammed Badaru, says security has “seriously” improved across the country while most highways shut down as a result of the activities of gunmen have now been reopened.
Through a statement made available by Henshaw Ogubike, the spokesperson of the ministry of defense, Minister Badaru said the recently lauched livestock ministry has also settled the farmers-herders clashes in the country.
“There is a serious improvement in security as most of the roads and highways hitherto closed due to insecurity have been opened,” the statement reads.
“Herders and farmers clashes have been solved by the creation of the livestock ministry, and many farmers have returned to their farms.”
Badaru disclosed that there is massive surrendering of insurgents while high-profile terrorist czars have been arrested.
Speaking further, Badaru urged youths to shelve the planned nationwide protest scheduled to begin on August 1, stressing that President Bola Tinubu is working to address the challenges facing the country.
While imploring youths “to come to a roundtable and dialogue” with the federal government, the defense minister said Tinubu’s reforms are producing results, noting that Nigeria’s economy is on a gradual and stable path of recovery.
One of the initiatives of this current administration, he said, is the introduction of the student loan scheme to increase access to higher education and lessen the financial burden on students.
Badaru said the increase in funding for infrastructure like roads, rails, energy, irrigation (dams and channels), and the directive for crude oil to be sold to indigenous refining companies are “robust efforts” targeted at economic growth.
He added that the president took a giant step by pushing for LG autonomy for efficient accountability and development at the grassroots to bolster governance.
