Former Education Minister Oby Ezekwesili has called on the Nigerian government to cease its fear-mongering tactics in the lead-up to the August 1st #EndBadGovernance protest.

Ezekwesili defended the protest as a legitimate means for Nigerians to voice their discontent with the current state of governance.

In a statement posted on X, Ezekwesili criticized the government’s efforts to spread fear through media propaganda.

She argued that these tactics are an attempt to stifle the voices of citizens who are increasingly frustrated with poor governance.

“The relentless media propaganda by the @NigeriaGov and their supporters stems from the fact that citizens, distressed and disheartened by their governance, have united to demand better leadership,” Ezekwesili wrote.

“Instead of addressing their concerns, the government is escalating fear across the country. This is truly disheartening.”

Ezekwesili emphasized that the government’s actions serve as evidence of the people’s power over those in authority.

“The #EndBadGovernanceProtest is a valid exercise of citizens’ rights to peacefully demand accountability from their leaders,” she stated.

“The widespread propaganda only highlights the significant power of the people.”

She praised the resilience of Nigerians during challenging economic times and expressed hope that the protest would lead to improved governance.

“May our country find better days through the people’s newfound strength to correct their leaders,” Ezekwesili concluded.
