The Emir of Kano, Malam Muhammad Sanusi II, on Friday, voiced his disappointment over the recent nationwide hunger protests, which devolved into violence in Kano State.
The unrest resulted in the tragic loss of lives and the destruction of property valued at billions of naira..
Describing the situation as “saddening and pathetic,” the Emir highlighted the significant hindrance this violence poses to the state’s socio-economic progress.
During a press conference at his palace, Sanusi, the 14th Emir of Kano, lamented that miscreants and destructive agents had hijacked the protests, causing widespread chaos and damage to public and private properties.
Sanusi pointed out that the resources required for repairs could have been directed towards essential services such as poverty alleviation, education, and nutritional programs.
The Emir also expressed sorrow over the destruction of the Digital Centre of Excellence, a facility built by the Nigerian Communications Commission to provide digital training and education to the youth.
Sanusi called on the residents of Kano to cease further violence and urged parents, ward heads, Imams, and District heads to educate their communities about the adverse effects of such actions.
He underscored the need for a collective effort to prevent similar incidents in the future and to promote the overall development of Kano.
