President Bola Tinubu is presently in a meeting with heads of security agencies in the country at the State House.

As a result of the meeting, this week’s federal executive council (FEC) meeting has been rescheduled.

Across the country, protests against economic hardship have continued, a day after the president pleaded with the protesters to suspend the demonstrations.

The chief of defence staff (CDS), Christopher Musa, had on the 2nd of August warned that the military will step in if the nationwide protest degenerates.

Kayode Egbetokun, inspector-general of police (IGP), had also pronounced that the police may lean on other security outfits — including the military — if the need arises.

Suspected hoodlums have hijacked protests particularly in Kano, Kaduna and Yobe, with looting and destruction of public and private properties the order of the day.

Policemen have fired teargas canisters on protesters in Abuja and Lagos.

Not fewer than 14 people have been reportedly killed across the country since the protest began on August 1.
