Omoyele Sowore, a former AAC presidential candidate, has criticized President Bola Tinubu for allegedly extravagant purchases, including a presidential jet and bulletproof vehicle, within one year of office.
Sowore claims these acquisitions starkly contrast with the government’s failure to address widespread suffering among Nigerians.
In a series of posts on his X page, Sowore asserted that the current administration is more focused on personal gratification than on alleviating the struggles of the populace.
He pointedly remarked, “Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu said one year isn’t enough for Nigerians to enjoy a better country, but look at what he bought for himself in just one year: yacht, jet, bulletproof Escalade, mansion for VP. #RevolutionNow.”
Sowore highlighted the recent inauguration of Tinubu’s $150 million presidential jumbo jet, noting that such expenditures underscore the disconnect between the leadership and the everyday struggles of citizens.
“The only thing that makes these thieving rulers in Nigeria happy is when they fulfill their personal desires; they don’t care about the people,” Sowore added.
This criticism comes amid a broader political and economic controversy.
The Nigerian government is embroiled in a legal dispute with Zhongshan Fucheng Industrial Investment Co. Limited, a Chinese company, over the revocation of its export processing zone management contract by the Ogun State Government in 2016.
The Chinese firm sought redress in a French court, which has subsequently ordered the seizure of several Nigerian government jets, including a Dassault Falcon 7X, an Airbus A330-243, and a Boeing 737-7N6/BBJ.
While the French court’s ruling initially involved all three aircraft, one has since been returned to the Nigerian government.
This legal entanglement has compounded the nation’s economic woes and fueled public discontent.
