Daniel Regha, a controversial social commentator and X influencer, has criticized President Bola Tinubu’s federal government for making imprudent financial decisions during the nation’s worst economic crisis in decades.

Regha, known for his outspoken views on social media, voiced his concerns following the recent confirmation by the Presidency of the acquisition of a new Airbus A330.

The newly acquired aircraft is intended to replace the 19-year-old Boeing B737-700 (BBJ) currently in use.

The purchase, estimated to cost over $100 million, has ignited widespread outrage among Nigerians, especially considering the nation’s mounting debt and struggling economy.

“The Nigerian government relies heavily on borrowing money, but still, this administration thought it was a smart idea to buy a presidential jet that costs over $100 million,” Regha stated in a post that quickly went viral.

“A country that’s still in serious debt shouldn’t be making such extravagant purchases,” he added, echoing the sentiments of many Nigerians who are grappling with the harsh realities of rising hunger, unemployment, and a skyrocketing cost of living.

This controversial purchase comes less than two weeks after thousands of citizens took to the streets in protests that spread across the country, demanding urgent government action to alleviate the economic hardships facing the majority of the population.
