Samu Omorodion has completed a surprise transfer from Atlético Madrid to FC Porto for a mere €15 million, following the dramatic collapse of his anticipated €40 million switch to Chelsea.

Omorodion, a 20-year-old forward, had been on the brink of joining Chelsea in a deal that was nearly finalized just two weeks ago.

The transfer, valued at £35 million ($44 million), was all but confirmed, with the young Spaniard expected to make the move to Stamford Bridge this summer.

However, the deal fell apart unexpectedly, reportedly due to concerns over an injury that sidelined Omorodion during Spain’s Olympic gold medal victory over France.

With Chelsea out of the picture, Porto moved swiftly to secure the talented forward. FC Porto President Andre Villas-Boas acted decisively, finalizing the deal with Atlético Madrid for a significantly reduced fee of £12.7 million.

As part of the agreement, Atlético Madrid has retained a 50% sell-on clause, ensuring they stand to benefit from any future transfer of the player.
