Social commentator Daniel Regha has fired back at former Super Eagles striker Odion Ighalo following the ongoing transfer saga involving Victor Osimhen.
The online confrontation comes after Osimhen’s failed deadline-day move to Chelsea.
The Nigerian striker was reportedly offered a lucrative deal by a Saudi Pro League club, which he declined.
Despite being under contract with Napoli until June 2026, Osimhen has not been registered by the club for the new season.
Should he fail to secure a move before the transfer window closes, Osimhen will be relegated to training with the U19 squad. Napoli’s head coach, Antonio Conte, confirmed that the club stands firm on this decision.
In response to the situation, Odion Ighalo took to X (formerly Twitter) to express his support for Osimhen, urging Nigerians to rally behind the embattled striker rather than add to his woes.
“No human being is perfect and we have all made mistakes in life, but seeing comments about this young man from his own country people makes me really sad, without even knowing what happened,” Ighalo wrote.
He added that he had spoken to Osimhen and sensed the pain in his voice, emphasizing the player’s commitment to his country despite the challenges he faces.
However, Daniel Regha, known for his candid opinions, criticized Ighalo’s remarks.
Regha argued that Ighalo’s post implied that the majority of Nigerians dislike or spite Osimhen, which he believes is not the case.
In his own post on X, Regha stated, “Ighalo, Nigerians have been supporting Victor Osimhen through thick and thin, even without knowing what happened behind the scenes.Your post makes it seem like the majority of Nigerians dislike/spite him. Show your support, but don’t make it seem like Osimhen is mostly hated by his people.”
