Elder statesman and South-South leader, Chief Edwin Clark, has formally petitioned the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, demanding the immediate arrest and prosecution of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike

The former Federal Commissioner for Information made this call in a letter to the IGP, which he publicly read during a press briefing held at his Asokoro residence on Thursday.

Clark’s demand is centered on Wike’s recent remarks, which he described as a threat to the stability of states governed by members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The petition follows Wike’s controversial statement made during the PDP state congress in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, last Saturday.

Addressing party members, Wike, who is also a former Rivers State governor, had issued a stern warning to PDP governors, urging them to stay out of the internal affairs of the party in Rivers.

In his address, Wike was quoted as saying, “Let me assure all of you, not while we live will anybody take away the structure of the PDP from us… I pity those governors because I will put fire in their states. When God has given you peace, you say you don’t want peace – anything you see, you take.”

Reacting to the statement, Chief Clark expressed deep concern over the potential consequences of Wike’s rhetoric, emphasizing that such language posed a threat to national security.

He condemned Wike’s words as a blatant act of insubordination to President Bola Tinubu, who appointed him as FCT Minister, and labeled the comments as bordering on treason.

The elder statesman further referenced the arrest of Omoyele Sowore, the presidential candidate of the African Action Congress, and participants in the #EndBadGovernance protests for similar inflammatory statements.

He urged the IGP to ensure Wike is held accountable in the same manner, stressing that the minister must be made to retract his dangerous assertions.
