Dangote Group has said the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited has not started lifting of premium motor spirit (PMS), popularly known as petrol, from its refinery.
Via a statement issued on Thursday by Anthony Chiejina, chief branding and communications officer of Dangote Group, the company made it clear that it is yet to finalise its contract with the NNPC.
“We would like to state that NNPC has not commenced lifting of refined Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), commonly known as petrol, from our Dangote petroleum refinery,” the company said.
“Therefore, the issue of fixing the price of petrol lifted from our refinery does not arise, as we are yet to finalise our contract with NNPC.”
Dangote Group added that the petrol market is strictly regulated, and in essence, the company can not determine, fix or influence the product price which falls under the domain of pertinent government authorities.
Also, the group assured Nigerians of high-quality petroleum products, which will be available all over the country.
On Tuesday, the chairman of Dangote Industries Limited, Aliko Dangote formally announced the commencement of petrol production at his refinery.
This development is coming months after its original announcement to start production of the commodity.
On May 18, Dangote stated that the refinery would begin petrol production in June, noting that Nigeria would not have to import the product again, but, production was eventually postponed.
