Economic Hardship : Your Policies Not Working, Review Them — Gov Mohammed Tells FG

The governor of Bauchi, Bala Mohammed, has told the Federal Government to reassess its fiscal and monetary policies as they are not producing results in the areas of poverty alleviation and unemployment.

Whilst speaking at the World Bank Nigeria development update tagged,‘Staying the course: Progress amid pressing challenges’ held in Abuja, on Thursday, Mohammed said the policies are impeding citizens growth.

Present at the event are the senior Vice President of the World Bank, Indamit Gill; Country Director for the World Bank in Nigeria, Diame Diop; Minister or Finance and Coordinating Minister of Economy, Wale Edun; CBN governor Yemi Cardoso, among others.

“With all humility, please review your policies, they’re not working. Even the growing FAAC allocation is not enough because inflation is eating it up and the purchasing power of the people is dwindling, we are all living with these people and I can tell you we are at risk of being lynched because of your policies ” the governor said.

Whilst speaking on the issue of payment of minimum wage, the Bauchi governor said the state still pays the former wage of N33,000 but had constituted a committee to look into how Bauchi can commence the new wage review.

Mohammed added that although revenue to the states has increased, there are lots of shortfalls in terms of power and infrastructure.

The governor disclosed that the he has blocked leakages since assumption of office which has now made Bauchi earn more revenues to solve domestic problems.
