The governor of Enugu, Peter Mbah, has approved the sum of N80,000 as the new minimum wage for civil servants in the state.
Mbah, via a statement on his X page on Thursday, said the new minimum wage takes effect from October.
“I have just approved a minimum wage of N80,000 for Enugu workers, effective October 2024,” the post reads.
“We appreciate the hard work and sacrifices of the state’s workforce and will continue to prioritise their welfare in line with our campaign promises. Tomorrow is here.”
This is coming barely 24 hours after the governor of Akwa Ibom, Umo Eno announced a new minimum wage of N80,000 for the state workers.
On the 16th of October, the governor of Lagos, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, made an announcement that the minimum wage for public sector workers in the nation’s commercial capital would be N85,000.
Similarly, on the 18th of October, the governor of Rivers, Siminalayi Fubara, approved N85,000 as the minimum wage for workers in the state.
President Bola Tinubu had in July signed the minimum wage bill into law, raising workers’ baseline pay from N30,000 to N70,000.
