President Bola Tinubu has directed all his ministers and heads of federal government agencies to reduce the number of vehicles in their convoys to three.
The special adviser to the president on information and strategy, Mr Bayo Onanuga, disclosed in a statement on Thursday that the directive is part of methods to cut the cost of governance.
He noted that the president also ordered that ministers and heads of agencies should have maximum five security personnel attached to them.
“In the directive issued today, President Tinubu also ordered all ministers, ministers of state, and heads of agencies to have at most five security personnel attached to them,” the statement reads.
“The security team will comprise four police officers and one Department of State Services (DSS) officer.
“No additional security personnel will be assigned.”
The special adviser added that the president has also directed the national security adviser to have a dialogue with the military and security agencies to “determine a suitable reduction in their vehicle and security personnel deployment”.
Tinubu, back in March, 2024, temporarily banned members of his cabinet from going on foreign trips using public funds.
He has often been criticised for his frequent foreign trips and also for his large size of his cabinet.
President Tinubu has the largest cabinet size since the country returned to democratic rule in 1999 with 47 ministers.
