President Bola Tinubu has appointed Daniel Bwala, the former spokesperson for Atiku Abubakar’s 2023 presidential campaign, as his special adviser on public communications and media.
The appointment was confirmed in a statement released on Thursday by Bayo Onanuga, the president’s special adviser on information and strategy.
Bwala, a lawyer and public affairs analyst, is widely known for his active role during the 2023 election season.
He had previously been a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) before joining the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), where he served as a key spokesperson for Atiku Abubakar’s presidential campaign.
Despite his shift in political allegiance, Bwala had expressed his willingness to support Tinubu’s administration, emphasizing his commitment to Nigeria’s success.
“I will appreciate it if the president offers me any form of appointment, but my support is not tied to any political appointment,” Bwala said in January, indicating that his priority was the success of Tinubu’s administration.
In addition to Bwala’s appointment, President Tinubu also named several other key figures to prominent positions within his government.
Olawale Olopade was appointed as the new director-general of the National Sports Commission (NSC).
Olopade, a seasoned sports administrator, brings years of experience, including his tenure as commissioner of youth and sports in Ogun State and chairman of the local organizing committee for the 2024 National Sports Festival.
Abisoye Fagade was appointed as the director-general of the National Institute for Hospitality and Tourism. A marketing communication professional, Fagade is also the founder and managing director of Sodium Brand Solutions.
Furthermore, Adebowale Adedokun was named the new director-general of the Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP). Adedokun, who previously served as the director of research/training and strategic planning at the bureau, brings his expertise to the position.
In his statement, Onanuga noted that President Tinubu has charged the newly appointed officials to execute their roles with dedication, patriotism, and excellence.
Confirming his appointment, Bwala expressed his gratitude on his X account: “I want to express my profound gratitude to Mr. President @officialABAT for the confidence and trust shown through this appointment. I am truly humbled and honored to serve our great nation under the esteemed leadership of a courageous Commander-in-Chief and father.”
