Review Your Policies Now…Nigerians Groaning Under Economic Hardship — PDP Governors Tells Tinubu

The governors elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have told President Bola Tinubu to “urgently” review his economic policies that are causing hardship for Nigerians.

They spoke through a communiqué issued at the end of their two-day meeting held at the Plateau state government house in Jos.

The chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum, Bala Mohammed, signed the communiqué.

The PDP governors asked Tinubu to “re-examine macroeconomics and fiscal policies that will address the welfare and well-being of Nigerians”.

“The forum empathises with Nigerians who are groaning under the oppressive economic hardship foisted on the nation by the policies and decisions of the APC-led federal government,” the communiqué reads.

“The forum calls on the president to urgently review both macroeconomic and fiscal policies that will address the welfare and well-being of Nigerians.

“The forum wishes to pledge that all PDP governors will continue to aggressively pursue policies and programs that will reduce the hardship and ensure progress and development.”

In the same vein, the governors asked the party’s national working committee (NWC) to call for a national executive committee (NEC) meeting by February 2025.

The opposition party, on Friday, indefinitely postponed the NEC meeting earlier rescheduled for November 28 as a result of the funeral of Patience Eno, the late wife of Umo Eno, governor of Akwa-Ibom.

Governor Mohammed added that the period from November to February 2025 would be dedicated to addressing the critical challenges facing the party.

“The forum is strongly advising the NWC to call NEC latest by the first week of February 2025 to allow for elaborate consultations with critical stakeholders of the Party,” he said.

“The period between November and February is to address the existential problems confronting the party, with a deliberate timeline of activities within the period under review to address issues of leadership and litigation confronting the party.”

The PDP, since 2022, has been enmeshed an internal crisis that has divided its NWC.

A faction of the party wishes that Umar Damagum is removed as the acting national chairman, while another division still wants him to continue to fill the position.
