Fulham secured an impressive 3-1 victory over Brighton on Thursday night, with Alex Iwobi delivering a standout performance by scoring twice in the English Premier League (EPL) clash.
Iwobi opened the scoring in the fourth minute, capitalizing on a misplaced back pass from Brighton goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen.
The Nigerian international seized the opportunity and calmly slotted the ball into an open net, giving Fulham an early lead.
Brighton equalized after the break through Carlos Baleba, who unleashed a powerful strike from the edge of the box into the bottom corner, leveling the match at 1-1.
However, the Seagulls’ comeback hopes were short-lived. Matt O’Riley inadvertently restored Fulham’s lead in the 87th minute when a corner kick delivery deflected off his back and into his own net.
Iwobi sealed the victory with a moment of brilliance in the 90th minute.
Turning sharply away from his marker, he curled a stunning shot into the far corner, sparking celebrations among Fulham fans at Craven Cottage.
The 28-year-old midfielder has been in fine form, contributing five goals and three assists this season. His recent run of three goals and two assists in the last four matches underscores his growing influence in Marco Silva’s side.
Fulham’s victory moves them up to sixth place in the EPL standings, now with 22 points from 14 matches, just one point behind Brighton, who remain in fifth.
The result highlights Fulham’s intent to compete for European qualification spots this season.
Manager Marco Silva praised Iwobi’s performance, saying, “Alex was outstanding tonight. His goals were crucial, and he’s been an integral part of our success this season.”
