Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has heaped praise on Cole Palmer, describing the 22-year-old as a grounded and humble player despite his meteoric rise to stardom in the Premier League.
Maresca’s comments came after Palmer delivered a standout performance in Chelsea’s thrilling 4-3 win over Tottenham on Sunday.
The victory moved the Blues to within four points of league leaders Liverpool and two points clear of Arsenal in second place.
Palmer, who scored twice from the penalty spot, marked an impressive milestone with his 50th goal involvement in just 48 Premier League appearances.
Despite his growing reputation, Maresca insists Palmer remains unchanged from the player he first coached during their time together at Manchester City’s under-23s.
“I know Cole from four or five years ago,” Maresca said after the match.
“The best thing about him is that even after two years, 20-30 goals, and being regarded as one of the best, he is exactly the same guy. Loves football, humble, no strange things.”
Maresca went on to highlight Palmer’s example for other young players, emphasizing the importance of maintaining balance and focus in the face of early success.
“This is the best thing for Cole and for young players because today, young players, if they play one good game, they think they are [top], and they lose the balance. He is always the same, doesn’t change, and we are very happy with Cole.”
