Former Nigerian Senator Shehu Sani has commended President Bola Tinubu for the positive outcomes of his foreign trips, contrasting them with the historically wasteful foreign travels of previous leaders.
Sani praised Tinubu’s recent international visits to Saudi Arabia, Brazil, France, China, and South Africa, emphasizing that they have yielded practical economic benefits for Nigeria.
In a post shared on his social media platform X, Sani expressed his excitement over Brazil’s $4.2 billion grant aimed at boosting Nigeria’s agricultural sector, a deal that will benefit local governments across the country.
He noted that such foreign engagements were a departure from past administrations, which often returned with no tangible results.
“The history of Presidential foreign travels in this country has been infamously known to be wasteful. There is an evidently notable difference this time around,” Sani wrote.
“To travel and come back with something huge is ok, to travel and come back with nothing is not ok.”
Sani’s remarks come amid a notable surge in Nigeria’s foreign direct investment (FDI), which increased by 248.1% in the third quarter of 2024, reaching $103.82 million.
