Former Deputy National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Bode George, has called on President Bola Tinubu to reduce the price of petrol to N300 per litre to bring relief to Nigerians during the festive season.

Speaking at a press conference in Lagos on Wednesday, George emphasized the importance of such a gesture in alleviating the economic burdens faced by citizens

George proposed that the reduction should take effect by mid-December and run through January, citing the significance of the holiday season for all Nigerians, irrespective of their religion or beliefs.

“There are two months in any calendar year that are very important: December and January. This is the time to give back to Nigerians,” George said. “Reducing the cost of petrol to N300 per litre will bring joy across the nation. The government can absorb the losses during this period.”

He added that such a move would positively impact the economy, as the reduction in fuel costs would lower the prices of goods and services. George further suggested that the First Lady, who recently donated N1 billion to a university, could contribute to the initiative.

The PDP stalwart criticized the current high cost of petrol, arguing that it has exacerbated the economic challenges faced by Nigerians.

He questioned Tinubu’s dual role as president and minister of petroleum, urging him to prioritize the well-being of citizens.

“If he truly believes Nigerians voted him into power, this is the time to prove it,” George stated.

Addressing internal crises within the PDP, George expressed optimism about the party’s ability to overcome its challenges before the 2027 elections.

He underscored the importance of adhering to the principles of zoning and rotation enshrined in the party’s constitution.

“PDP is like an Iroko tree, deeply rooted in justice, equity, and fairness. These principles made the party stable,” he said.

“However, human manipulation has caused instability. Individual ambitions should not override the collective interests of the party.”

George also criticized past leadership failures, particularly under former National Chairman Iyorchia Ayu, blaming them for the party’s recent setbacks.
