Former Kogi State governor Yahaya Bello has been remanded in the Kuje Correctional Centre following a ruling by the Federal Capital Territory High Court on Tuesday.
This decision came after the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) brought forward a money laundering case involving a staggering N110bn.
Justice Maryann Anenih, presiding over the case, also set new dates for the hearing of the case—January 29 and 30, and February 25 and 27, 2024.
The case, which has attracted widespread attention, involves allegations of financial mismanagement and illicit activities during Bello’s tenure as governor.
Reacting to the court’s decision, former Senator Dino Melaye took to his official X handle, expressing his excitement over the ruling.
Melaye, who has been a vocal critic of Bello in the past, remarked that he had predicted the former governor’s eventual imprisonment six years ago.
“Six years ago, SDM predicted Yahaya Bello would end up in prison,” Melaye wrote.
“Today, he will be spending Christmas in Kuje prison. All powers belong to God.”
