Former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode, has criticized Kemi Badenoch, the leader of the United Kingdom Conservative Party, over her recent remarks about Nigeria
In a strongly-worded statement posted on his X handle on Thursday, Fani-Kayode declared that Nigeria neither needs nor wants her involvement.
The controversy began when Badenoch, who has Nigerian roots, commented on her experiences growing up in Nigeria, describing it as marred by fear, insecurity, and corruption.
Her remarks drew criticism from Nigeria’s Vice President, Kashim Shettima, who accused her of denigrating the country. Speaking at the 10th Annual Migration Dialogue in Abuja on Monday, Shettima urged Badenoch to refrain from such criticisms, even suggesting she drop the “Kemi” from her name if she is not proud of her Nigerian heritage.
In her response, Badenoch stood by her earlier comments, maintaining that she was speaking from personal experience and not engaging in public relations on behalf of Nigeria.
Fani-Kayode’s response to Badenoch has added another layer of tension to the ongoing dispute.
Referring to Badenoch’s comments and political alignment in the UK, he said, “No, you are not [needed] and neither do we need or want you to. You are, however, doing PR for the House Ni*gers Association and the racist, fascist scum that constitutes the far-right wing of your adopted country.”
He further suggested she change her name to “Aunty Jemimah” if she intends to continue distancing herself from Nigeria.
