Former Senator Shehu Sani has criticized the Federal Government’s free train ride initiative, alleging it has been misused by thugs.
The Kaduna-Abuja free train service, introduced by President Bola Tinubu’s administration for Christmas travelers, was intended to ease transportation during the festive period but has reportedly been exploited for nonproductive purposes.
The Federal Government announced the initiative on December 26, encouraging Nigerians to take advantage of the free rides during the holiday season.
While the policy initially garnered praise for its citizen-friendly approach, reports of its abuse have surfaced.
In a post on his X account on Friday, the former federal lawmaker expressed his concerns, lamenting that the initiative is not serving its intended purpose.
Instead, he claimed it has become a platform for thugs to occupy train stations and travel aimlessly.
Sani wrote, “The FG Kaduna-Abuja free train ride is a good gesture that has not helped those travelling for Christmas but provided an opportunity for thugs to take over the station and the train seats, just travelling to and from Abuja without purpose.”
