Michael Owen, a former Manchester United striker, criticized the Red Devils following their 2-0 defeat to Wolves in the Premier League.

Owen, who now serves as a pundit, criticized the Red Devils for their lack of attacking prowess and tactical coherence under manager Ruben Amorim.

Speaking on Premier League Productions, the former England international described United’s display as “absolutely awful,” particularly in their inability to create chances in the attacking third.

“I’m looking at the Manchester United team half the time there [against Wolves], and they have got three players marking one at the back,” Owen said.

“You’d never see a Liverpool team doing that. They’d all go man for man, and if they’ve got spare men, they’d push them into attacking areas.”

The former striker suggested that Amorim might still be in the process of implementing his system, but insisted the current performances are far from acceptable.

“That’s probably what he [Amorim] is working towards, but at the moment, even if they weren’t conceding many goals, I wouldn’t be getting carried away because the team isn’t functioning,” Owen added.

He didn’t hold back in his critique of United’s attacking display, stating, “They’re absolutely awful going forward. I can’t think of a chance that they had there today [against Wolves].”

The defeat leaves Manchester United languishing in 14th place in the Premier League table, marking a significant fall from grace for a club once synonymous with success.

With pressure mounting on Ruben Amorim, fans and pundits alike are questioning whether the manager can turn the season around before it’s too late.
