Fayose: APC vs PDP Doesn't Matter, Support for Tinubu is Key

Former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose expressed strong support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s ongoing reforms, predicting that the bold initiatives would yield positive results for Nigeria in the coming years.

Speaking to reporters in Lagos after a meeting with President Tinubu at his Ikoyi residence, Fayose noted that he was hopeful for an improvement in the nation’s economy and governance under the current administration.

The former governor, a prominent member of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), called on Nigerians to support President Tinubu’s efforts, stating that the reforms implemented by the President were in the best interest of the country.

Fayose also expressed confidence that President Tinubu would back Ekiti State Governor Biodun Oyebanji for a second term, highlighting the governor’s strong performance and widespread support among the people of Ekiti.

“I believe that Governor Oyebanji is on track for re-election, and I have no doubt that the President will continue to support him,” Fayose said.

Addressing his political stance, Fayose emphasized that his support for Tinubu was not based on party affiliation but on the belief that good governance and nation-building should take precedence.

“The question is not about APC or PDP. When it comes to Asiwaju, I cannot hide my affection for him. I supported his ambition before, and now that he is President, my prayer is for him to succeed,” he added.

During their meeting, President Tinubu shared his vision for Nigeria’s future, discussing plans to tackle economic challenges, including reducing inflation.

He also reiterated his commitment to the controversial removal of the fuel subsidy, assuring that he would work to compensate for its removal through other policies.

Fayose remarked that President Tinubu’s resolve to improve the country’s economy and governance was evident, particularly in his praise for Nyesom Wike, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister.

Tinubu described Wike as a key ally in his administration and acknowledged his efforts in transforming Abuja.

On the issue of Ekiti State’s politics, Fayose revealed that the President had assured him of his support for Governor Oyebanji’s second-term bid.

Fayose, who expressed his belief that the majority of Ekiti citizens, including artisans, traders, and civil servants, supported Oyebanji’s leadership, said he would work with other leaders in the state to ensure the governor’s re-election.

“The President confirmed that Governor Oyebanji enjoys his confidence and support, and he has asked him to prepare for his second term,” Fayose said.

“I will also work with other Ekiti leaders to ensure that this goal is achieved.”
