Chelsea has exercised a clause to recall defender Trevoh Chalobah from his loan spell at Crystal Palace, effective immediately.
Fabrizio Romano confirmed the development via a post on X on Wednesday.
The decision was reportedly made by Chelsea’s management and manager Enzo Maresca in response to multiple injuries in the squad and anticipated departures in their defensive lineup.
Chalobah, 25, joined Crystal Palace on loan last summer after failing to secure a place in Chelsea’s first-team plans under Maresca.
However, circumstances at Stamford Bridge have necessitated his immediate return.
“Chelsea have activated the clause to recall Trevoh Chalobah from Crystal Palace with immediate effect. Decision made by Enzo Maresca and the club’s management after many injuries, with some defenders also set to leave.”
The recall means Chalobah will not feature in Crystal Palace’s squad for their clash against Leicester City tonight.
With Wesley Fofana sidelined due to injury and other potential exits looming, the club sees Chalobah as a vital addition to their January plans.
