President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is currently presiding over a crucial meeting at the State House in Abuja, aimed at addressing the ongoing political tensions in Rivers State.

In attendance are Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Nyesom Wike, and several Ogoni leaders.

The meeting, which also includes key members of the Federal Executive Council and top security officials, comes amid a lingering supremacy battle between Governor Fubara and Wike, a former governor of Rivers State.

The crisis, which began in late 2023, has created political instability in the state.

Prominent Ogoni leaders at the meeting include Senators Lee Maeba, Magnus Abe, Olaka Nwogu, Victor Giadom, Kenneth Kobani, and Monsignor Pius Kii. Others in attendance are Leedom Mitee, Senators Bennett Birabi, Barry Mpigi, and Prof. B. Fakae.

The high-profile gathering also features the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, Minister of Information and National Orientation, Idris Mohammed, Minister of Regional Development, Abubakar Momoh, and Minister of Environment, Balarabe Abbas. Additionally, the Group Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), Mele Kyari, is present.

While the details of the meeting remain undisclosed, it is believed to focus on resolving the political unrest in Rivers State and fostering unity among key stakeholders.
