A Nigerian woman, Anthonia Umerah, has raised discussions on social media after condemning the notion that financial struggles stem from refusing to engage in transactional relationships
In a Facebook post on Friday, Umerah expressed concern over a growing mindset where some women attribute their lack of financial stability to their decision not to sleep with men for money. She recalled an incident where a woman made such a statement in public, drawing disapproving reactions from those around her.
“It’s too disturbing to hear a lady say that the reason she’s broke in this 2025 is because she does not sleep with men for money. A lady said this in the midst of people last week, and everyone looked at her like a fool,” she wrote.

Urging young women to adopt a more proactive approach to financial independence, Umerah advised them to seek employment or engage in legitimate businesses rather than considering relationships as a means of income.
“If you’re a lady with this type of mentality, kindly change this 2025! Go and get a job! Sleeping with a man is not a source of income!” she emphasized.
She further criticized the assumption that successful women attained their financial status through relationships with men, calling for a shift in perspective.
