Bandits who attacked a General Hospital in Kankara Local Government Area of Katsina State have demanded a total ransom of N540 million for the release of abducted staff members and other victims.
The Tuesday, January 21 attack left a medical doctor and another individual wounded with gunshot injuries. Among those injured was Dr. Murtala Sale Dandashire, while several staff members of the hospital were kidnapped.
Reports indicate that the bandits have placed a N270 million ransom on the release of Yusuf Muhammad Mairuwa, an Assistant Director of Nursing Services and head of the hospital’s nursing section.
Additionally, they are demanding another N270 million for the remaining hospital staff and workers from a nearby fertilizer factory who were also abducted during the attack.
Governor Dikko Umaru Radda of Katsina State, through his Chief Press Secretary, Ibrahim Kaula Mohammed, assured that the government is intensifying efforts to enhance security, particularly for medical professionals.
“We are restrategising our security approach to ensure that our medical professionals can perform their vital duties without fear. The safety of our healthcare workers and residents remains our paramount concern,” the statement read.
