The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has commenced the enforcement of the mandatory minimum Third-Party Motor Vehicle Insurance, following the directive of the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun.

The exercise, which began on February 1, 2025, aims to ensure compliance with road safety regulations and protect all road users.

In a statement issued on Sunday, the Police Public Relations Officer, Josephine Adeh, emphasized that all vehicle owners in the FCT must possess a valid Third-Party Insurance policy before driving on public roads.

She advised those without the required insurance to obtain one immediately to avoid sanctions.

According to the police, Third-Party Insurance is designed to provide financial protection by covering damages caused to another person’s vehicle, property, or bodily injury in the event of an accident.

The policy is expected to ensure that accident victims receive appropriate compensation, thereby reducing the financial burden on vehicle owners.

The FCT Police Command has issued a stern warning against non-compliance, stressing that violators will face strict enforcement measures.

“The enforcement is part of efforts to ensure adherence to road safety regulations and protect all road users,” the statement noted.

Meanwhile, the FCT Commissioner of Police, Olatunji Disu, has instructed officers overseeing the enforcement to carry out their duties professionally. He warned against any form of harassment or extortion, emphasizing that officers must be “courteous and firm” while ensuring compliance.

Disu also urged motorists to cooperate with the police, noting that the exercise is for the safety and security of all road users in the FCT.

The authorities reaffirmed that the enforcement would be sustained as part of broader efforts to enhance road safety and adherence to traffic regulations.

Motorists are therefore advised to comply immediately to avoid penalties, as the police continue to enforce the directive with full commitment.
