President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has officially signed the North-Central Development Commission (NCDC) Bill into law, marking a significant step toward accelerating development in the region.
Senate President Godswill Akpabio disclosed this during a plenary session on Monday, February 4, in the Senate chamber.
“Let me also inform my colleagues that Mr. President has assented to the North-Central Development Commission Establishment Bill 2024, in order to bring development to the grassroots,” Akpabio announced.
He extended congratulations to the people of the North-Central region, expressing optimism that the commission would foster growth, stability, and peace in the area.
The NCDC is expected to play a pivotal role in addressing developmental challenges in the North-Central region, similar to the functions of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) in the South-South.
With this assent, the commission will focus on rebuilding infrastructure, promoting economic opportunities, and tackling security concerns that have hindered progress in the region.
