Religious Prosperity Preaching, Social Media Encouraging Human Trafficking – Oluremi Tinubu

The First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has expressed concerns over the role of movies, social media, and some religious institutions in promoting the get-rich-quick mentality, which she believes is fueling human trafficking in the country.

Mrs. Tinubu made this assertion on Friday, February 7, when the Director-General of the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), Binta Bello, led a delegation to her office at the State House, Abuja.

In a statement issued by her Senior Special Assistant on Media, Busola Kukoyi, and titled “First Lady Reiterates Call for Re-orientation for Hard Work and Patience,” Mrs. Tinubu reaffirmed her commitment to supporting NAPTIP’s fight against human trafficking.

During the meeting, the First Lady was briefed on the agency’s recent activities, including a major raid on a baby factory in Abuja, where 19 pregnant young girls were rescued.

She urged Nigerian youths to resist the lure of traffickers and criminal elements by embracing patience, diligence, and hard work.

“The get-rich-quick syndrome is not helping matters. Even our religious institutions are preaching prosperity, whereas the Bible itself emphasizes hard work. Social media and Nollywood are also contributing to this problem,” the statement read
